Ancient music

From a musical point of view, this program gives us the possibility to rediscover some works which belong to two of the most representative genres of ancient Spanish music: the Villancicos and the Ensaladas.

The villancicos which are performed in this program have been rescued from the Library at the Monasterio de El Escorial. After years of lying forgotten in the archives, these villancicos will finally see the light again. Musicologist Sara Escuer has transcribed the works for this concert. La ensalada Las Cañas, by Mateo Flecha el Viejo, will be performed according to Mª Carmen Gómez Muntané’s transcription. This transcription was made after the Prague manuscript from 1581. Some shorter works with different instrumental and vocal templates will provide variety to this show that should not fail to impress even the most demanding audience.
Furthermore, the present show offers an interesting costumes designed by Dr. Mª José Ruiz Mayordomo, expert in dance and period costume, and a rhyming text in Renaissance literary style, written by Mª José Álvarez, an expert in the classics.
